Down, Ignition keys:
According to some sources, General Motors’ recent ignition-switch recall issues could lead to the complete abandonment of key-operated systems. As an alternative, fob-operated remote pushbutton starters that have been in use for some time by numerous automakers are considered to be more reliable than key-type switches. The only issue to sort out is with drivers who might be unfamiliar with the system and who leave their cars running with the fobs in their pockets.

Up, Corvettes with manual transmissions:
Sources at Chevrolet confirm that the manual- transmission purchase, or “take” rate for the 2014 Corvette is at 40 percent, which, in this instance is considered especially high. A desire for greater driver involvement along with slightly better fuel economy is cited as the primary reasons for the popularity of the seven-speed manual. However, that could change with the arrival of the 2015 ‘Vette, which will have an eight-speed automatic in place of the current six-speed unit.

A new eight-speed automatic transmission will likely put a dent in sales of manual-equipped Corvettes.
